Glossary
A short reference for terms used in the editor and this handbook.
Notes, parts, and layers
- Note
- One sound with a pitch, start time, duration, volume, and other properties. Shown as a bar in the piano roll.
- Part
- A group of notes in OMMT, useful for editing one role such as the melody.
- Layer / track
- A grouping in an NBS / MIDI source file. After import, you can organize these notes into OMMT parts.
Bars, BPM, and snap
- Bar / measure
- A group of beats used to locate a passage, numbered above the piano roll.
- BPM / tempo
- Playback speed. A higher BPM is faster.
- Snap
- Aligns note moves and resizes to rhythmic divisions.
- Playhead / seek
- The current playback position, and the action of moving to a different position.
Pan, range, and automation
- Pan
- The left-to-right position of a sound; 0 is centered.
- Pitch range
- The range of playable pitches. A displayed source pitch may sound different when playback is fitted to vanilla range.
- Automation
- Graphical editing of properties such as volume or tempo. OMMT has separate volume, pan, tempo, and release panels.
- Cents / detune
- Fine pitch offset. 100 cents equals one semitone.
